London - Nigeria's taekwondoists at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, will be facing tough opponents when the competition gets underway on Thursday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Isah Muhammad, fighting in the men's 68 kg-category, will be taking on Mohammad Abulibdeh of Jordan on Thursday from 11:15 a.m. in the event's preliminary round.
However, the 28-year-old Interior Design student is the 16-fighter event's number three seed and is expected to pose a big challenge to the 25-year-old Nigerian.
The bout's latter stages come up later in the day, with the final scheduled for 10:30 p.m.
On his part, Chika Chukwumerije has number four seed Robelis Despaigne of Cuba to contend with in their men's 80+ kg preliminary round fight slated for Saturday, August 11.
The fight is to start from 10:45 a.m. with the event's gold medal match scheduled for 10:30 p.m.
NAN reports that bouts in the events of the taekwondo competition will begin on Wednesday and end on Saturday.
It has four weight categories each in the men and women’s categories, with 64 fighters in each category.
