Abuja - The Speaker of the House of
Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has hailed members of Nigeria's African Games
team for their gallant performances at the just-ended tournament.
The team was impressive at the Games in Congo Brazzaville. Nigeria claimed
47 gold, 56 silver and 44 bronze.
Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, said the
athletes had done Nigeria proud by finishing in second place (behind Egypt) in
the overall medals table.
Dogara said the spectacular performance displayed by the
athletes in Congo was reflective of the true Nigerian spirit and worthy of

is not achievable," he said.

He disclosed that the National Assembly would continue to
make budgetary provisions for the improvement of welfare of athletes in
addition to providing modern sporting facilities.
The Speaker urged members of Team Nigeria to work hard
towards securing the first position in the next African Games.
Dogara tasked both authorities of the sport ministry,
various sporting federations and the athletes to ensure early preparation for
the Rio Olympics in Brazil next year.
“With your performance at the All Africa Games, we expect
you to improve on it in next year's Olympics in
Brazil,” he added.
He said government was determined to providing the
conducive atmosphere for all young people to realise their potential in life.
