London - A Turkish boxing referee has been found dead in his London hotel room before the Olympic Games officially kicked off on Friday.
Bayram Altug, the head of the Turkish Boxing Federation, said a colleague found the 73-year-old Garip Erkuyumcu dead in his bed on Thursday.
A heart attack is the suspected cause.
Altug said Erkuyumcu was a member of the International Boxing Association's refereeing and judging commission and would have been assisting referees during the Games.
Erkuyumcu's body will be flown back to Turkey next week.
