Abuja - The Nasarawa State Government has offered to sponsor the 2015 Alhaji Ahmadu Oga tournament, the state’s leading basketball tournament.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al- Makura disclosed this in Lafia, shortly after training with the state team at the weekend.

He said the sponsorship was not only to imbibe the culture of sports among youths but also bring back the glory of Nasarawa State in the game of basketball.

“I am glad to say that I will sponsor the forthcoming tournament. We will continue to pay great attention to sports, by encouraging and sponsoring local competition,” Al- Makura said.

The governor commended the efforts of the organizers and added that his administration would continue to support youth development initiatives.

The Secretary of Nasarawa State Basketball Association, Mallam Aminu, commended the governor for visiting the team and for accepting to sponsor the forthcoming tournament.

He said the gesture would help make the event, which is scheduled to hold before the end of the year, colorful.

Aminu also thanked the governor for giving attention to youths and sports development.
