Nigerian athlete expecting baby after Rio Olympics

26 August 2016, 15:51Israel Ojoko

Lagos - Days after the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil, Nigerian athlete Antwon Hicks has revealed he is expecting his first child.

Hicks, who competed in the 110m men’s huddles event, announced that himself and wife Shareese are expecting a baby girl in January, 2017.

“Didn't have my best race in Rio, but coming home I feel like I've won the Gold. I'm so happy to announce that we are expecting our first child; a baby girl; in January! Shareese Hicks thank you for holding me down and doing everything in your power to assure I had a stress free/focus Olympic experience; all while dealing with the challenges of pregnancy, work, and the kitchen sink. Time to put your feet up my queen.” He wrote on his Facebook page.

Hicks finished with a time of 14.26s and consequently failed to make it to the medals stage.

News24 reported that Nigeria only won one medal (bronze), in men’s football event at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
