85-year-old Zimbabwean man caught raping 4-year-old niece

01 April 2016, 16:32

Masvingo - An 85-year-old Zimbabwean man in the Matova village, Masvingo province, has been arrested after being caught pants down raping his 4-year-old niece, a report said on Friday.

The state-owned Chronicle newspaper revealed that the unidentified man lured the young girl by promising to hand-pick guava fruit for her at the family garden after the toddler's mother had gone to church.

At the garden, the man laid the toddler on the ground and forced himself on her.

He was, however, caught by the young girl's mother who had returned from church and was worried when she could not locate them.

The man was arrested and would appear in court soon.

Early this year, the Sunday News revealed that Masvingo accounted for a at least 4% of rape cases in the country last year.

The report further indicated that rape cases involving juveniles in the country last year were 285 as compared to 274 in 2014.
