Eni to partner Sustainability Initiatives Africa at Expo

01 May 2015, 08:02

Rome - Eni is the official partner for Sustainability Initiatives in African Countries at Milan Expo 2015, the Universal Exposition from May 1 to Oct. 31.

It is the largest event ever held on food and nutrition involving over 140 countries and more than 20 million visitors from around the world.

Eni has been chosen as a partner due to its understanding of the fundamental value of sustainability and its particular interest on the African continent, where it is the leading international energy company in terms of hydrocarbon production.

Expo will be an opportunity to look at Eni's many initiatives in support of local development, with particular emphasis on access to energy in its deeper significance of sustainability, cooperation, innovation and research.

The commitment to develop sustainability projects in parallel to its operations has deep roots for Eni, and has yielded concrete results in terms of credibility and long-term relationships with the countries in which it operates.

Eni always cooperates with local communities and institutions, for example by helping reduce energy poverty with infrastructure for the production, transport and distribution of gas, the construction of power plants and the promotion of rural electrification projects.

In Africa, even more than elsewhere, access to modern forms of energy is the engine for the development of the health, education and agriculture sectors.

Projects in support of the local population are always part of country development plans, with particular emphasis on social activities and on improving health and environmental conditions.

The company's approach to host countries can be seen by its use of the dual flag image: Eni's six-legged dog plus the local flag.

The two flags can be seen flying together not only over plants and oil and gas fields, but also in villages and cities where development projects are taking place.

For Eni to be sustainable in Africa and in the world means to create value for stakeholders, using resources in a way that does not compromise the needs of future generations, with respect for the individual, the environment and society, and characterized by cooperation, integration, innovation, excellence, inclusion and responsibility.

Expo is the ideal event for Eni to continue to promote these values at an international level.
