Kidnap victims delivered baby in pool

09 May 2013, 09:35

Cape Town – The longest held of the Cleveland kidnap victims, Michelle Knight, has told police in a statement cited by reports that she helped deliver Amanda Berry's now 6-year-old child, Jocelyn, with their kidnapper standing over them and threatening to kill them if the baby died.

The Daily Mail reported on Thursday that Knight said in the statement that she had to give the baby, delivered in an inflatable pool, CPR after she was born not breathing.

According to the report, Knight told officers she had been pregnant five times during the more than decade-long ordeal. The babies never survived as she was punched in the stomach and starved during the pregnancies.

Three brothers Ariel, Onil and Pedro Castro have been arrested for the kidnapping.

Ariel Castro has been charged with kidnapping and rape. No charges have been filed against his brothers as police say there is no evidence linking them to the crimes.

The women - Berry, aged 27, Gina DeJesus, aged 23, and Knight, aged 32 - were freed on Monday night after a neighbour heard Berry's screams for help.

The three Ohio women were abducted separately in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
