London – James Gray, 85, a retired butler from South London placed an advertisement in a local newspaper looking for companionship after spending nine Christmases by himself, Huffington Post reports.
His last Christmas visitor was his accountant ten years ago and although Gray was adept with eating alone he did not want the same this year.
His original ad for fellow retirees, who did not have family to share Christmas with, did not garner much response with the only respondent backing out, and just when he thought he would be spending the holiday alone again, he received offers from all over the world and Christmas cards from those who could not share the day with him.
Gray said he will probably go to an event by Jake Morrison, 21, from Liverpool who is having a lunch for people in a similar position as Gray.
