Washington - A man in the US capital was killed in a police shooting on Thursday night in Washington's subway system, officials said.
Transit police responded to a call that a person had entered a subway tunnel just over a mile from the US Capitol building, a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority spokesperson told AFP.

During the incident near the Potomac Avenue subway station "an adult male was fatally injured," said the spokesperson.
The station was closed and the investigation has been turned over to the Washington police department.
No further information was immediately available.
