Lagos – Four tourists who stripped naked on the sacred Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia were given jail time as punishment for disrespecting the mountain which many civilians believe was the cause for a magnitude 5.9 earthquake, BBC reports.
The group confessed to the charge “committing an obscene act in public”. The group of tourists which come from UK, The Netherlands and other countries, climbed to the peak of Mount Kinabalu to enjoy the sunset and they challenged each other to remove their clothes.

Their lawyer argued that they were ignorant of the country’s customs and that the international media coverage of the incident was punishment enough. He asked that they be given a fine and be deported.
Locals however were outraged that the tourists had disrespected the sacred mountain were many of them believe their souls go to rest. They believe that the recent earthquake was triggered by the shenanigans of the group.
