Johannesburg — A South African lawyer says he was assaulted by an angry mob at a courthouse where he had represented two men accused of murdering a young girl.
Lawyer Nico du Plessis said Tuesday that he was dragged through the security gate of a courthouse in Tonga town, east of Johannesburg, during the attack last week. In the street, du Plessis says, people kicked him and threatened to kill him until a police officer intervened.

Another hearing in the case of the suspected murderers is scheduled for Wednesday. Du Plessis has asked authorities to move the hearing to another venue.
