PHOTO: Frog with massive penis may not be so 'hung' after all

12 May 2016, 12:35

Abuja - A photo shared over the Internet last week has caused a huge stir over social media, but the frog in question may not be packing down below after all.

According to Daily Mail, the picture of a frog sporting what appears to be an enormous "third leg" is just that - a third leg!

The post, shared by Facebook user Keith Leech, shows three pictures of the underside of a frog, complete with what appears to be quite a sizeable penis.

Experts, however, have explained the growth, stating that frogs don't have penises but that penises did evolve from frog "legs".

"It’s not a penis, frogs don’t have then, but penises did evolve from ‘legs’ during embryonic development so an extra leg is part way there," Gerry Marantelli from the Australian Amphibian Research Centre told Buzzfeed News.

Frogs might not have penises but they do have cloacae, an appendage used to guide sperm into the female's cloacae in order to facilitate internal fertilization.

See the frog showing off his "goods" below.
