Abuja - The death of a 17-year-old girl is currently being investigated following an illegal female genital mutilation operation.
According to World Wide Weird News, Mayar Mohamed Mousa, an Egyptian resident, had the operation performed on her and her twin sister at a Suez hospital on Sunday.
The deceased, who is said to have been under full anesthesia during the procedure, is reported to have died following complications linked to the operation.

Authorities have since shut down the facility where the operation took place, questioning the hospital manager and staff following Mayar's death, The Guardian reports.
The practice of female genital mutilation was made illegal in 2008 but is still used as a form purification for young girls across the world.
