Teenager faces jail time after live streaming friend's rape

Abuja - A teenager is facing up to 40 year in prison after being charged with live streaming her friend's rape using social media app Periscope.

According to a report by the Mirror UK, the suspect, Marina Lonina (18), was arrested after a recording of Raymond Gates (29) assaulting a 17-year-old victim was discovered and reported to police.

The pair, Columbus, Ohio residents, have both been charged with rape, kidnapping, sexual battery and pandering sexually-oriented matter with a minor.

Lonina was charged separately with the illegal use of a minor in a nudity-oriented material or performance.

In addition, Lonina had also taken a picture with the victim, who was nude, the night before the rape took place.

The motive behind the livestreaming remains unclear, although both Lonina and Gates are said to have been drinking before the incident took place.
