VIDEO: ISIS unveils new 'police force' in Libya

22 December 2015, 11:13Cindy Pierce

Tripoli - The Libyan branch of the Islamic State has released chilling propaganda footage of a new 'police force' patrolling the streets of Libya, Daily Mail has reported.

The video shows Sharia law enforcement officials, decked out in blue uniforms as opposed to their usual black regalia, monitoring the coastal street of Sirte.

Masked to protect their identities, the soldiers take orders from their commander, as he addresses the camera in Arabic.

The footage functions as both a mockery of, and a warning to, the West, following a security vacuum in the country caused by warring factions following the fall of Colonel Muamar al-Gadaffi.

Despite factions in the country having signed a brokered agreement endorsed by the United Nations (UN) last week, soldiers loyal to the ISIS still continue to control the city of Sirte, The Mirror reports.

The Islamic State's decision to maintain law and order comes in response to the lawlessness that still continues to manifest in the capital of Tripoli.

The city of Shirte still appears to be functioning well despite the presence of ISIS soldiers, with the video showing civilians shopping and electricity still being supplied.
