Zimbabwe deports 13 SA-bound Ugandans

04 May 2016, 14:50

Bulawayo - Zimbabwean authorities have deported at least 13 SA-bound Ugandans after they entered the southern African country illegally, a report on Wednesday said.

According to the state-owned Chronicle newspaper, the Ugandan nationals were between the ages of 19 – 40 years.

They were caught after Zimbabwean police received a tip off about their illegal entry through the country’s border with northern neighbour Zambia.

Bulawayo magistrate Eveline Mashavakure sentenced the unidentified Ugandans to a three months jail term, wholly suspended for five years, pending their deportation.

This came just less than three months after at least 15 Ethiopian immigrants who entered the country illegally were deported, according to NewsDay .

Chinhoyi magistrate Brenda Dhliwayo sentenced the Ethiopian immigrants to a wholly suspended two month jail term pending their immediate deportation.

The illegal Ethiopian immigrants told magistrate Dhliwayo that they were forced to commit the offence because of poverty and political unrest in the east Africa nation.
